이어 “밤 늦게 대구에서 소식을 접하고 급히 국회로 달려갔지만 새벽 2시반이 넘어서야 도착해 비상계엄해제 결의안 표결에는 참여하지 못했다”고 설명했다.

또한 “비상계엄 사태가 큰 변고 없이 조기에 정리된 것은 다행스럽지만 대통령의 비상계엄선포는 결코 있어서는 안 될 잘못된 일“이라며 ”왜 이런 일이 일어났는지 진상을 철저히 조사하고 책임 있는 사람에게는 그 책임을 엄히 묻도록 하겠다“고 강조했다.

그러면서도 “이번 사태를 정쟁으로 몰고 가서 국정을 마비시키거나 대통령 탄핵이라는 역사적 비극을 반복하도록 해서는 안될 것”이라고 덧붙였다.

아울러 “국민들의 목소리에 더욱 귀 기울이면서, 대한민국의 발전과 국민의 안녕을 위해 혼신의 힘을 다하겠다”고 말했다.
