브레이크뉴스 임국정 기자 = 여당인 국민의힘이 신임 원내대표로 '원조 친윤(친 윤석열 대통령)' 권성동 의원(5선·강원 강릉)을 선출했다.
국민의힘이 이날 오전 국회에서 의원총회를 열고 원내대표 선출 투표를 실시한 결과, 권 신임 원내대표는 재적 의원 108명 중 재석 106명의 과반인 72표를 얻었다. 경쟁자로 나선 김태호 의원(4선·경남 양산)은 34표를 받았다.
검사 출신인 권 원내대표는 윤 대통령의 정치 입문과 대선 승리를 돕고, 윤석열 정부 출범 후 여당 첫 원내대표를 맡아 친윤 핵심으로 꼽히는 인물이다. 이준석 전 국민의힘 대표(현 개혁신당 의원)가 징계로 당 대표 자리에서 물러난 뒤 대표 직무대행을 맡기도 했다.
권 신임 원내대표는 당선 소감에서 "당의 어려운 시기를 하루빨리 정비하고, 조만간 있을지 모르는 대선에 대비하는 태세까지 마치고 물러날 것"이라고 밝혔다.
그는 "이제 정말 우리는 하나가 돼야 한다. 원내대표 선거 시작 무렵처럼 그러한 행태를 반복해서는 안 된다"라며 "하나가 되기 위해서는 서로의 의견을 끝까지 듣는 힘과 아량을 가져야 한다"라고 말했다.
그러면서 "민주 절차에 맞게 또 건전하게 비판해야 한다"라고 덧붙였다.
앞서 전임 추경호 원내대표는 윤석열 대통령의 비상계엄 사태 당시 제대로 대응하지 못했다는 비판에 더해, 계엄에 사실상 동조한 것 아니냐는 의혹이 제기되며 자진 사퇴했다.
