웹툰 창작 인재들이 한자리에 모이는 국내 최대 규모의 대학생 웹툰 공모전이 대전에서 열린다.

대전시는 오는 14일부터 16일까지 3일간 대전이스포츠경기장에서 ‘2025 대학만화웹툰최강전’을 개최한다고 11일 밝혔다. 올해로 5회째를 맞은 이번 행사는 기존 ‘대전국제웹툰잡페어’에서 명칭을 변경해, 실질적인 창작 인재 발굴과 산업 연계에 초점을 맞춘 것이 특징이다.

총 156건의 대학생 작품이 공모에 접수됐으며, 이 중 48건을 선정해 시상한다. 대전시는 이번 행사를 통해 지역을 거점으로 한 웹툰 창작 생태계를 강화하고, 청년 창작자들에게 산업 진출 기회를 확대한다는 계획이다.

행사 기간에는 웹툰 기업과의 1대1 매칭 상담회, 작가 토크쇼, 창작자 교류회 등 다양한 프로그램이 마련된다. 특히 개막일인 14일 오후 5시에는 ‘대전 웹툰 과학포럼’, 시상식, 창작자 네트워킹 프로그램이 이어지고, 15일에는 인기 웹툰작가의 토크쇼와 사인회가 열릴 예정이다. 대전이스포츠경기장 1층에서는 참가 학생들의 작품 전시가 상시 운영된다.

대전은 최근 10여 년간 국내외 웹툰산업 중심지로 빠르게 성장해왔다. 네이버·카카오 플랫폼을 통한 130편의 연재, 해외 8개국 진출, OSMU(One Source Multi Use) 사례 95건을 기록하며 콘텐츠 산업의 경쟁력을 인정받았다. 

넷플릭스 시리즈로 제작된 꼬마비 작가의 ‘살인자ㅇ난감’, 오세형 작가의 ‘광장’, 디즈니+ 오리지널 ‘커넥트’ 등은 대전 출신 작가의 글로벌 성공 사례로 꼽힌다.

또한 지역 작가 서쿤스의 ‘마흔 즈음에’, 진자의 ‘나의 바람은 죄가 아니다’, 신여름의 ‘짝사랑을 망치고 싶어’ 등 신작이 연이어 공개되며 대전 웹툰 생태계의 활기를 더하고 있다.

대전시는 이러한 성과를 기반으로 ‘웹툰 IP 첨단 클러스터’ 조성사업을 추진 중이다. 내년 국비 확보에 박차를 가하는 한편, 올해는 약 7억 원을 투입해 웹툰캠퍼스 운영, 지역작가 육성, 산업기반 확충 사업을 추진하고 있다.

이장우 대전시장은 “대학만화웹툰최강전이 전국 대학생 창작자들의 기술과 열정이 교류되는 대표 대회로 자리 잡길 기대한다”며 “향후 웹툰 클러스터 조성으로 지역 인재들이 글로벌 K-웹툰 산업의 중심으로 성장할 수 있도록 적극 지원하겠다”고 말했다.

이번 행사는 웹툰에 관심 있는 누구나 무료로 관람할 수 있으며, 행사 기간 동안 전국 예비 웹툰작가들의 수준 높은 작품을 직접 만나볼 수 있다.
