그댈 만나지 않았을 터인데
시절인연이 닿아서인지, 난 그댈 만났소.
군사 쿠데타 장군을 몰아내야한다고
반정부 기사를 쓰고 또 써댔던, 나에게
아주 잘하는 일이라고 칭찬해주었는데
내 나라 안에서가 아니라, 나라 밖에서 악악 떠드는 게
그래도, 떠들어야 한다고 칭찬해주었는데
시절인연 때 만난, 당신 생각에
가슴이 이리 저리는 이유는?
그런 시대의 독재자들이 모두 죽고
새로운 세상이 왔는데도
아직도 내 가슴에선 끝내
못 잊을 사랑이 깃발 되어 이리저리 나부끼네.

<시작 메모>나에게 있어 시(詩)란 무엇인가? 나는 시를 쉽게 쓰려고 노력하는 사람이다. 시는 압축(壓縮)할대로 압축한 핵폭탄과 같다. 그래서 시는 응축(凝縮)이다.
나는 한때, 미국 뉴욕의 맨해튼에서 반정부 기자로 일했었다. 지금, 시절인연이, 몹시, 그립다!

If I, a Seoul native, hadn't gone to New York,
I wouldn't have met you.
Perhaps it was because of a time of relationship, but I met you.
You praised me for writing and writing anti-government articles, insisting that we should oust the military coup general.
You praised me for doing a great job, saying that I should still speak out, even if it was only within my own country.
Why does my heart ache when I think of you, whom I met during a time of relationship?
Even though all the dictators of that era are dead and a new world has arrived,
the unforgettable love still flutters in my heart like a flag.
