이 같은 성과의 배경으로는 군정 운영을 체계화한 김문근 군수의 지속적인 추진력과 관리체계가 꼽힌다. 

군정 주요 현안사업을 중요도에 따라 A·B·C 등급으로 분류해 직접 점검하는 방식이 정착되며, 부서별 목표와 우선순위가 명확해졌다는 내부 평가가 이어지고 있다.

올해 대표 성과는 단연 유네스코 세계지질공원 공식 지정이다. 

국제 전문가단의 까다로운 심사를 모두 거친 이번 지정은 단양의 지질·생태·문화 보전정책이 세계적 기준에 부합함을 보여주는 성과다. 

이어 대한지질학회 학회장상까지 수상하며 단양군의 지질 정책은 국제·학술 양측에서 동시에 우수성을 인정받았다.

상하수도 분야는 지방공기업 평가에서 ‘우수’ 판정을 받으며 기반행정의 안정성과 전문성을 보여줬다.

보건·안전 분야에서는 실명예방사업 유공 장관 표창, 민방위활동 충북도지사상, 재난대응 우수 평가 등 군민 안전과 직결되는 정책에서 고른 성과를 나타냈다.
