여신도 성폭행 혐의로 재판을 받고 있는 기독교복음선교회(통칭 JMS) 정명석 목사의 재판이 치열한 공방이 이뤄지고 있다. 해당 재판은 지난 7월 17일 ‘공정한 재판이 이뤄지지 않고 있다’며 변호사의 기피신청으로 5개월간 중단된 상태였다. 오는 11월21일 재개되는 재판을 일주일 앞둔 14일, 정명석 목사의 재판은 이례적으로 재차 기피신청을 했다. 정범에 대한 선고가 나지도 않았는데 공범으로 붙잡힌 여성 간부들에 대한 재판과 선고가 먼저 진행된 점이 기피사유가 된 것. 

불교, 가톨릭 등에서는 독신 여성 성직자, 즉 비구니-수녀 등의 여성 성직자가 있다. 그런데 기독교복음선교회에도 ‘신앙스타’라는 독신 여성 성직자 제도가 있는 것으로 확인됐다. 이에 정명석 목사 사건의 핵심을 이루고 있는 ‘신앙스타’들에 대해서 취재하게 됐다. 기독교복음선교회 내 신앙스타들은 그 동안 신앙스타에 대해 확인되지 않은 각종 허위사실이 언론을 통해 여과 없이 방송되는 바람에 사회적으로 낙인찍히는 피해를 입었다. 정명석 목사의 재판도 언론의 영향을 받아 불공정하게 진행되고 있다고 주장한다. 선교회 내에서 지도자로 사역하는 신앙스타 중 광주 지역에서 목회 활동을 하고 있는 주보현씨(신앙스타). 이 인터뷰는 기독교복음선교회 홍보실의 협조로 이뤄졌으며, 아래는 일문일답이다.

-‘신앙스타’란 무엇인가?

▲기독교복음선교회에서 ‘신앙스타’는 천주교의 신부님, 수녀님처럼 결혼을 하지 않고 하나님과 예수님을 섬기는 자들이다. 절대 술과 담배를 하지 않으며, 하나님과 예수님만을 사랑하여 평생 이성 교제를 하지 않고 깨끗하고 정결하게 살아가는 이들이다.

-언제 신앙스타가 됐으며, 그 길을 택한 이유는?

▲나는 신앙이 없었던 사람이다. 그런데 대학교 1학년 때, 기독교복음선교회에서 성경을 배우고 하나님과 예수님이 어떤 분이신지 제대로 깨닫게 된 것이 계기가 됐다. 사람과 사람 사이도 서로를 알 때 믿음이 생기고 그 믿음의 바탕 위에 사랑이 생기듯, 하나님과 예수님에 대해서 제대로 알게 되니 더 사랑하게 되었고, 그 뜻대로 사는 인생이 되고 싶었다. 그래서 하나님과 예수님께 제 인생을 드리겠다고 ‘스스로’ 결정한 것이다.

이는 사람이 시켜서 할 수 있는 것도 아니고, 억지로 할 수 있는 것도 아니다. 누구보다도 이성으로 깨끗해야 하고, 평생 홀로 하나님만을 모시고 섬기는 삶은 본인이 결심하고 각오해야 살 수 있는 것이다. 물건 하나를 살 때도 이것저것 비교하며 꼼꼼히 따져보고 더 좋은 것을 사는데, 하물며 하나뿐인 나의 인생을 투자하는 것인데 분별하지도 않고 막무가내로 맹목적으로 믿고 따를 순 없는 법이다.

-신앙스타가 되려면 어떤 조건이 필요한가?

▲신앙의 모범이 되어야 한다. 가장 큰 조건은 <하나님과 예수님을 사랑하는 삶>이다. 언론에서는 항상 ‘사랑’이라 하니 육체관계의 사랑, 이성의 사랑, 에로스의 사랑으로 왜곡시키지만 그런 저차원의 사랑이 아니라 영적인 사랑, 마음과 생각의 사랑, 아가페적인 사랑이다. 

정명석 목사님께서 늘 강조하시며 보여주신 사랑도 영적인 사랑이다. 하나님과 예수님을 사랑하는 삶이란 마음과 생각을 다른 데 뺏기지 않고 오직 하나님과 예수님을 중심하며 육신은 하나님이 원하시는 일을 하며 사는 것이다.

즉, 신앙 스타의 조건은 이성간의 사랑에 있어서 몸도 마음도 주지 않고 절대 깨끗해야 하며 오직 하나님과 예수님만을 사랑하며 육은 그의 일을 전적으로 행하며 사는 것이다. 이렇게 하나님을 모시고 섬기는 삶을 사는 것이 신앙스타이다. 

그런데 그릇된 주관을 가진 자들이 신앙스타는 키 크고 예쁜 자들을 뽑아 성 착취 대상으로 삼는다는 얼토당토 않는 말들을 한다. 나부터 160정도 밖에 안 되는 평균키에 평범한 외모인데다 신앙스타는 여자뿐 아니라 남자도 선발한다. 많은 언론에서 신앙스타가 세뇌되어 성피해를 당했다고 주장하지만 어디까지나 선교회를 탈퇴한 일부 사람들의 악의적 의도로 하는 주장일 뿐이다. 현재 선교회에 존재하는 수많은 신앙스타들은 전혀 성피해를 당했다는 이야기가 없다.

-신앙스타만의 특별한 교육과정이 있나?

▲신앙스타라고 해서 특별한 교육과정이 있는 것은 아니다. 언론에서는 신앙스타가 특별한 교육을 받고 세뇌되었다고 주장하지만 이는 사실이 아니다. 신앙스타도 다른 교인들과 동일하게 성경을 기본으로 하여 주일, 수요, 새벽 말씀을 듣는다. 이것은 어느 종교를 가든지 사람들이 같은 교리를 배우듯이 기독교복음선교회도 동일하다. 언론에서 주장하는 신앙스타만의 특별한 세뇌교육은 명백한 왜곡이다.

-마지막으로 하고 싶은 말이 있다면?

▲사람은 겪어봐야 어떤 사람인지 알 수 있다. 나는 수십 년 간 기독교복음선교회에 몸담아왔고 정명석 목사님을 직접 겪어보고 확인하면서 예수님이 함께 하시는 분임을 확신했다. 정명석 목사님은 겪어보면 정말 하나님밖에 모르는 분이시고, 진정으로 생명을 사랑하시며 이렇게 순수하고 선한 사람이 있을 수 있을까 한다. 

그런데 안타깝게도 많은 사람들이 정명석 목사님의 진실한 삶과 그 분이 끼친 선한 영향력, 그 분이 이루어 놓은 것들을 겪어보지 않고 거짓으로 포장된 언론의 악한 말과 자극적인 말을 하는 것에만 귀를 기울이며 거기에 말을 더하기가 바쁘니 너무나 안타깝다. 어서 속히 진실이 밝혀지고 정명석 목사님에 대한 모든 오해가 풀어지기를 고대해 본다.

-When did you become a religious star and why did you choose that path?

▲I am a person who did not have faith. However, during my first year of college, I learned the Bible at the Christian Gospel Mission and came to truly understand who God and Jesus are. Just as faith arises between people when they get to know each other, and love arises based on that faith, when I got to know God and Jesus properly, I began to love them more, and I wanted to live a life according to their will. So, I decided ‘on my own’ to give my life to God and Jesus.

This is not something that can be done by people, nor is it something that can be done by force. You must be pure with reason more than anyone else, and you can only live a life of serving God alone for the rest of your life if you decide and are prepared to do so. When buying an item, I compare things and carefully consider it before buying the better one, much less investing my one and only life, so I cannot blindly believe and follow it recklessly without discernment.

 -What conditions are necessary to become a faith star?

▲You must be an example of faith. The biggest condition is <a life that loves God and Jesus>. The media always refers to it as ‘love’ and distorts it into physical love, love of the opposite sex, and Eros love, but it is not such a low-dimensional love, but spiritual love, love of the heart and thoughts, and agape love.

The love that Pastor Jung Myeong-seok always emphasizes and shows is also a spiritual love. A life of loving God and Jesus means living a life centered only on God and Jesus without letting your heart and mind be distracted by something else, and doing what God wants you to do with your body.

In other words, the conditions for a religious star are to be absolutely pure, not giving away either body or mind in love between the sexes, to love only God and Jesus, and to live with the flesh doing his work entirely. Living a life of attending and serving God like this is a faith star.

However, people with wrong views say absurd things like religious stars select tall and pretty people and target them for sexual exploitation. I'm only about 160cm tall and have an average appearance, and not only women but also men are selected as religious stars. -Is there a special curriculum unique to Faith Star?

▲Being a faith star does not mean there is a special curriculum. The media claims that religious stars have received special education and been brainwashed, but this is not true. Like other church members, faith stars also listen to the Bible-based sermon on Sundays, Wednesdays, and early morning. This is the same for the Christian Gospel Mission, just as people learn the same doctrine no matter what religion they go to. The special brainwashing education claimed by faith stars only is a clear distortion.

-Is there any last thing you would like to say?

▲You can only know what kind of person a person is by experiencing something. I have been working in the Christian Gospel Mission for decades, and after personally experiencing and confirming Pastor Jung Myeong-seok, I was convinced that Jesus is with him. From my experience of Pastor Myungseok Jeong, I realize that he truly knows nothing but God, and that he truly loves life, making me wonder if there could be such a pure and good person.

Unfortunately, many people do not experience the true life of Pastor Jung Myeong-seok, the good influence he had, and the things he has achieved, but they only listen to the media's evil and provocative words packaged with lies, and find it difficult to add to them. It's too bad you're busy. I look forward to the truth being revealed quickly and all misunderstandings about Pastor Jung Myung-seok being resolved.
