가도정명(假途征明)을 내세운 일본의 도요토미는 사병(士兵) 출신이다. 그가 스스로 오른 최고 직책은 관백(-關白-천황 대신하는 2급 정무대신)에 머물렀다. 임진왜란(壬亂)을 총괄 지휘한 그가 쇼군(將軍)에 오르지 못한 까닭은 신분이 미천했기 때문이다. 요샛말로 육사를 나와 정규 과정을 거치지 못한, 그냥 싸움꾼에 불과했다. 이런 도요토미의 조선 출병 명령을 내치(內治)와 칭병(稱病)으로 거부한 이는 도쿠가와 이에야쓰(德川家康)다. 훗날, 정권을 잡은 도쿠가와는 임란 불출정(不出征)을 내세우며 조선과 300여 년간의 선린 우호적 교류의 물꼬를 텄다.

게다가 장제원은 자식의 음주운전 재범에도 불구하고 청백리로서 결사 항전의 배수진을 부산 사상에 치고 영구집권을 공공연히 선언했다. 울산의 김기현 당대표는 노련하고 미끄러운 어법으로 ‘적당히 놀다 갈 처지’에 당 지도부의 공천권 행사에 끼어들지 말라고도 배를 내밀었다. 국민의힘 최고 수재(과고 2학년 조기 졸업과 하버드 컴공 학사 우수 졸업상 수여)인 이준석의 수도권 창당에, 적전분열(敵前分裂)에 우왕좌왕 수사(修辭)적 레토릭만 늘어놓고 있다.

인요한 혁신위원장은 호가호위(狐假虎威) 힘이라도 얻을 요량으로, 대통령과 청와대가 조자룡 헌 칼이라도 쓰라 했다고 주장했다가 윤심(尹心) 본거지인 그곳으로부터 호된 반발을 얻어맞았다.

국민의힘 당이나 더불어민주당이나 쇄신의 칼집을 빼 들기도 전에 적당주의 설득으로 결코 진압키 어려운 내년 총선에 박힌 돌(현역 지역구 의원)들의 당과 함께 자폭하겠다는 비주류, 교체 대상자의 저항이 만만치 않다.

험지 출마는 이론상 적진에 나가 죽으라는, 결말이 뻔한 계백 장군의 투혼 촉구다. 어느 누가 영호남 의원들이 대구 혹은 광주에 가 주민들에게 이념적 차이를 설득하고 주입하여 개선장군으로 돌아올 수 있단 말인가? 다선(多選)을 누린 양당 의원들이 국가와 지역을 위해 가시적인 예산과 발전을 도모한 입법으로 평가해야 마땅한 공천 전제가 돼야 한다. 그럼에도, 한철 메뚜기처럼 중앙당의 하향식 ‘공천이 곧 당선이다’라는 등식은 지지우세 지역의 안전판이었다. 그 누구도 ‘텃새’를 벗어나 견해가 다른 지역에 출마 발을 담근 정당의 외연 확장에 나설 이는 단 하나도 없어 보인다.

이준석 전 국민의힘 당 대표의 진단이 쾌도난마 적 상황인식이다. 민주당은 운동권 국민의힘은 검찰공천이란 진단이 그것이다. 

군부독재 시대는 이미 끝났다. 검찰을 통해 경제가 아닌 범죄를 소탕하겠다는 발상 또한 치졸하다. CC-TV와 통화기록 금융거래 내역이면 대한민국의 대기업에서 잡범(雜犯)까지 금세 잡아내는 초 기술 사회다.

인요한 국민의힘 혁신위원장의 완장은 크고 화려하나 대통령실, 민정수석, 한동훈 법무부 장관의 지원이 선결돼야 한다. 문제는 대통령실에 포진한 윤핵관(윤석열 핵심관계자)들의 2024년 총선에 절반 이상 출마가 예상된다. 이런 야망과 기대에 흠뻑 취한 대통령의 수족들을 먼저 쳐낼 실권이 없다. 또한, 당내 김기현 장제원 홍준표 같은 노령잔치 대상 정치인들을 신예로 바꾸려다 ‘굴러 온 돌이 박힌 돌’을 빼낸다는 무시와 조롱을 당했다.

어느 정권이든 집권 중반기엔 쇄신이란 이름으로 허수아비 다선이나 힘없는 초선을 밀어내고, 새로 접수한 정권의 영속적 영향력을 향유키 위해 현 정권의 새끼들을 심는다. 차기 공기업 사장으로 약속하거나 혹은 비리를 은근히 내밀어 ‘눈물의 은퇴’ 쇼를 보이기도 하는 게 정치다. 

어찌 됐든, 대기업 총수의 운전기사를 월금 750만 원에 빈번한 성과금을 주는 이유는 간단하다. 어둡고 감추어야 할 부분이나 돈 심부름 채홍사(採紅使) 역할을 운전기사가 하기 때문이다. 모시는 회장이 바뀌지 않는 한 운전기사도 안 바꾼다. 그러나 현재 상황은 천지개벽했다. 모두 다 의문시하던 문재인 정권의 맥을 단숨에 끊어버린 선두에 윤석열 대통령이 건재하다.

권불십년(權不十年) 화무십일홍(花無十日紅), 인생도 정치도 흥망성쇠 생로병사의 굴레를 절대 못 벗어난다. 유유상종(類類相從)이라고, 윤석열 대통령이 수십 년간 범죄자를 기소하며 국가와 민생안위를 위해 헌신한 것은 분명한 공로(功勞)다.
