온라인 동영상 서비스(OTT)가 미디어로 진화 중이다. 글로벌 OTT 시장의 위력이 대단함을 보여주고 있다. 넷플릭스는 지난 3월3일 한국 다큐멘터리 8부작 “나는 신이다“를 선보였다. 한국 현대사 속에서 출현(出現)했던, 소위 ‘메시아’들로 알려진 종교인들의 일탈(逸脫)을 취재-방영했다. 넷플릭스의 이 프로 가운데, 기독교복음선교회(JMS) 정명석 목사가 끼어 있었다.
필자는 한국의 '신흥(新興)종교'라는 단어보다는 '새(new) 종교(宗敎)'라는 단어를 선호한다, 신흥종교란 일제가 붙인 이름이기 때문이다.
지난 3월 넷플릭스의 '나는 신이다'는 프로 방영 이후 일부 언론의 왜곡-과장 보도가 사회적인 문제로 부각됐다. 이 프로의 언급 대상이었던 JMS 교단은 각종 시위-집회(평화적인 방법)로 한국 언론이 지닌 문제와 재판부의 여론재판 진행을 비판했었다.
이런 시기에, 필자와 필자의 매체(브레이크뉴스, 주간현대 등)는 이 사건을 지속적으로 보도해왔었다. 특히 지난 3월14일 한 라디오 방송이 내보낸 정명석 목사 1인의 1만명 또는 그 이상의 성 폭행 보도가 지닌 문제점을 지적해왔다. 그리고 이 보도는 사실이 아님을 피력해왔었다. 가짜 사실임을 줄기차게 보도해왔다.

필자는 지난 11월18일, 취재차 경기도 광명시 한내일로 41에 있는 'JMS 광명교회'를 방문했다. 이 교회는 예배인원 2,000여 명 모인다는 큰 교회였다. 이 교회당의 로비에 정명석 목사가 쓴 글씨(지난 2018년에 썼음) 액자가 걸려 있었다. 이 액자에는 “생각이 신(神)이다“라는 내용의 글씨가 쓰여 있었다. 우연하게 발견했다. 필자가 이 교회를 직접 방문, 정명석 목사가 쓴 친필 글씨를 확인한 것이다. 심오한, 철학적인 주창이다

이 시대에 새로운 종교를 창교한 종교인과 종교 단체도 한국 종교(K-종교=Korea religion) 범주에 넣어주는 융합(融合)적 사고가 필요한 시대라고 생각한다. 새로운, 새 종교들도 열심히 국가 이익에 봉사하고 있다. 충남 금산군 월명동에 세워진 JMS의 자연교회는 47만평(축구장 213배 크기)에 달하는 거대한 자연교회이다. 이 교회는 세계 기독교사에서 독보적인 자연 성전이다. 이 자연교회를 찾는 외국인들이 늘어나고 있다. 이미 국익(國益)기관화 됐다. 이런 새 종교의 시설들이 국익을 가져다주는 종교 시설로 큰 역할을 할 수 있도록 하는, '인식의 전환'이 필요한 시점이다. moonilsuk@naver.com
