지난 16일 밤부터 충남 북부권에 기록적인 집중호우가 내리면서 지역 곳곳에 피해가 잇따르고 있다. 

기상청에 따르면 16일부터 이어진 비는 18일 오전까지 아산, 당진, 서산, 천안 등 충남 주요 도시에 70mm에서 많게는 420mm를 넘는 많은 강수량을 기록했다. 

17일 아침 기상청은 서산과 태안, 당진에 호우경보를, 천안, 아산, 홍성, 예산에는 호우주의보를 발령했다. 서산에는 한때 시간당 110mm를 넘는 폭우가 쏟아졌고, 당진 역시 밤새 100mm 내외의 극심한 호우로 시내 곳곳이 물에 잠기기도 했다.

이번 집중호우로 서산국민체육센터가 침수되면서 휴관에 들어갔고, 당진 전통시장이 침수되면서 상인들의 피해가 예상되는가 하면 하천범람으로 인한 도심 피해가 이어지고 있고, 농경지와 농업시설 침수, 도로 통제, 산사태 대비 등 추가 피해 우려가 커지고 있다.

급격히 높아진 하천 수위와 강한 빗줄기로 인해 당진천과 역천, 삽교천 등 주요 하천 주변에는 범람 경보가 떨어졌다. 

비피해가 우려된 지역 주민들은 산사태와 침수에 대비해 마을회관 등지로 사전 대피하는 등 밤잠을 설치는 이들도 많았다.

태안에서는 밤새 정전 사태가 발생했고, 홍성 광천천 산책로와 주요 둔치 주차장, 지하차도 등 다수 시설이 일시적으로 통제됐다.

충남도 재난안전대책본부는 호우특보에 따라 새벽 비상 단계를 차례로 2단계까지 상향 조정하면서 전 행정력이 피해 최소화에 투입됐다. 

한편 충남 금산을 제외한 충남 14개 시군과 세종 지역에까지 호우경보가 발령 중인 만큼 하천 범람 우려 지역과 저지대, 산사태 위험지에서는 철저한 대비가 요구되고 있다.
