전남도가 2019년 전국 최초로 시행, 2021년부터 2023년까지는 농림축산식품부가 도입해 전국 지원사업으로 확대됐으나 올해부터는 정부지원이 중단돼 도 자체사업으로 지원한다.

총사업비는 15억 원으로, 마을 운영자에 대한 역량 강화 교육을 거쳐 마을별로 2월 중순부터 참여자 모집을 시작해 3~4월께 프로그램이 시작된다.

영농·일자리 체험을 통해 지역 특산물을 재배하고, 특산물을 이용한 식품을 만들거나 일부 마을에선 천연염색, 효소를 이용한 발효식품 제조 기술 전수를 하는 등 마을별로 차별화된 프로그램을 진행한다.

프로그램에 관심이 있는 도시민은 ‘그린대로’를 통해 지역 여건, 마을별 숙박시설, 운영 프로그램 내용 등을 확인하고 원하는 마을에 신청하면 된다.

사업 참여자에게는 숙박비 일부와 프로그램 체험비를 지원한다.
