불변의 철칙은 누구든지 잘하면 칭찬받고 못하면 욕먹는다는 것이다.

용산 대통령과 여당인 국민의힘은 총선에 올인(몰빵)하고 있다. 나라가 거덜 날 지도 모르는데 닥치는 대로 퍼주기를 자행한다. 궁극적으로 선거 결과가 평가할 것이고 재집권의 길을 여는 것이라는 생각으로 밀어 부치는 것이다.

그러나 민주당은 지금 잘하는 것이 아무것도 없다. 용산 대통령실과 국민의힘을 견제하지도 못한다. 사람들의 마음을 잡지도 못하고 사람들은 시나브로 떠나가고 있다. 의원들도 많이 떠났고 계속 떠나는 중이고 더 떠날 것 같다. 떠나지 않고 남아있다고 해서 식구인 것도 아니다. 남은 사람이 반드시 좋은 사람이라는 보장도 없고 다 떠나고 자기들끼리 뭉친다고 잘될 것도 없다.

민주당에서 대표와 공관위원장이 자기들의 공천을 혁신공천이라고 반복해서 주장하는데 지지율은 급전직하로 떨어지고 있다. 무엇을 위한 혁신일까?

국민들이 대표와 공관위원장의 높은 뜻을 이해하지 못하는 것인가? 자멸적 공천을 혁신이라고 말하지는 않을테니 참으로 이해부득이다.

민주당 안에서 일부 당원과 지지자들은 무엇이라 말하는지 모르겠지만 바깥에서는 이미 한숨과 불만과 비판의 수준을 넘어서버렸다.

우리의 경험의 범위에서 말하면 사람들이 무엇인가에 집중하면 나머지는 안 들리거나 무시하게 된다. 적어도 민주당이 총선 승리에 집중하는 것 같지는 않으니 그것이 무엇일까? 당권이라면 가능성이 매우 높다.

그러나 그 당권으로 무엇을 하려는 것일까? 자칫 아무짝에도 쓸모없는 당권으로는 어떤 것도 할 수 없다. 당권이 대권을 보장해주는 보증수표도 아니다. 참으로 요령부득의 상황이 아닌가?
