브레이크뉴스 임국정 기자 = 국민의힘 부산 수영 국회의원 후보로 공천됐다가 막말 논란으로 공천이 취소된 뒤 무소속으로 출마한 장예찬 후보(전 국민의힘 청년최고위원)가 정연욱 국민의힘 후보와 후보 단일화에 실패하더라도 선거를 완주하겠다는 의사를 밝혔다.
장 후보는 3일 CBS 라디오 '김현정의 뉴스쇼'에 출연해 "정 후보가 바뀌지 않는다면, 단일화 경선을 거부하는 지금의 상황이 계속된다면 장 후보는 끝까지 완주하냐"라는 진행자의 질문에 "주민들께서 표로 진짜 보수 장예찬에게 실질적 단일화를 이뤄주실 거라고 믿고 달릴 것"이라고 답했다. 이어 "완주의 의미로 받아들이면 되냐"라는 질문에 장 후보는 "그렇다"라고 분명히 했다.
앞서 장 후보는 정 후보에게 단일화를 제안했지만, 정 후보는 '막말로 공천이 취소된 장 후보가 사퇴하면 단일화는 자연스럽게 될 것'이라며 이를 거부하고 있다.
반면, 장 후보는 "정 후보가 국민의힘 후보 치고는 경쟁력이 너무 없는 게 사실"이라며 단일화가 필요하다고 주장했다. 그는 "아무리 3자 구도라 할지라도 지금 정 후보는 국민의힘이라는 여당 간판을 달고도 (지지율이) 저와는 오차 범위 내에 붙어 있고, 유동철 민주당 후보를 따라잡지 못하고 있는 상황 아니냐"라고 지적했다.
