[브레이크뉴스경기남부=안산 이귀선기자] 안산시와 LG화학이 폐비닐 자원 선순환을 위한 시스템 구축 필요성에 공감대를모으고 폐비닐을 깨끗한 자원으로 재탄생시키는 사업을 함께 추진한다.

안산시는 지난 2일 안산시청 제1회의실에서 LG화학과 폐비닐 재활용활성화 및 순환경제사회 구축을 위한 업무협약(MOU)을 체결했다고 3일 밝혔다.

이날 협약식은 이민근 안산시장과 이화영 LG화학 석유화학본부 Sustainability 사업부 전무 등 관계자들이 참석한 가운데 진행됐다.

안산시 생활폐기물 중 폐비닐은 연간 약 1만 5천t이 발생하는 수준으로 매년 양이 증가하고 있으며, 수거된 폐비닐은 비용을 들여 고형폐기물연료(SRF) 생산 업체를 거쳐처리해 왔다.

이번 협약을 통해 안산시에서 발생하는 폐비닐 일부를 LG화학에 제공하고, 이 폐비닐은 올해 가동 예정인 충남 당진시 석문국가산업단지 열분해유 공장의 원료로사용한다.

열분해유 공장은 화학적 재활용을 통해 폐플라스틱(폐비닐)에서 플라스틱 원료를추출하는 공장으로, LG화학은 이 원료를 활용해 다양한 친환경 제품을 생산·출시할 예정이다.
