우리의 그림에 대한 치열한 의식을 품고 있는 강금복 화가 초대 개인전 “사랑·상생 전”이 서울 종로구 인사동에 소재한 HEE 갤러리(관장 전미희)에서 지난 7월 1일 오픈하여 오는 31일까지 열린다.    

매화를 소재로 한 최근작을 포함하여 25여 점의 작품을 선보인 강금복 초대 전시 작품에서 푸른빛을 바탕으로 그린 매화 그림 연작과 새로운 작품들이 오래도록 발길을 붙들었다. 

예로부터 매화는 동양 문화에서 다양한 상징을 품은 꽃으로 시와 그림에 주요한 소재였다. 긴 겨울 혹독한 추위를 이겨내고 가장 이르게 피어나는 꽃을 비추어 가슴 깊숙하게 품은 소중한 기다림의 상징으로 삼아왔다. 

찬바람 머금은 순결한 자태 속에 숨결처럼 퍼져 나는 은은한 향기는 멈칫대는 겨울 끝자락을 끌어안은 새벽안개처럼 하얀 꽃잎에 먹먹하게 스며있었다. 향기는 꽃에서만 나오는 것이 아닌 거친 풍상을 거머쥔 나무의 숨결과 같은 느낌이 흥건하였다.

쓸쓸함 속에서도 포기하지 않고 피어난 하얀 꽃잎들이 번뜩이는 작가의 최근작 동양화 매화 그림은 자연의 생명이 품은 신성함과 인간의 감성을 하나로 어우른 작품이다. 

먹물의 농담을 통해 표현된 나무와 가지들은 오랜 세월을 견뎌온 풍상이다. 가지에 피어난 하얀 꽃은 누구도 포기할 수 없는 신성한 생명의 희망이다. 하늘을 당겨 놓은 사방으로 열린 여백의 공간에 향기를 훔친 바람마저 멈칫대는 작가의 작품은 자연과 인간의 내면이 하나가 되는 순간을 그려낸 깊은 마음에서 터져 나는 소리꾼의 절창과 같다. 자연과 인간, 생명과 시간의 흐름을 시적으로 승화시킨 작품이다. 

작가의 매화 작품 연작과 새로운 작품의 바탕은 모두가 푸른 빛이다. 가만히 들여다보면 고요한 바다의 숨결이 출렁이며 끝없는 하늘이 넘실댄다. 

푸른빛은 자연에 담긴 가장 신성한 빛깔이다. 세상 어느 곳 모든 하늘은 새벽녘 동트기 전 어슴푸레한 푸른빛으로 물들어 온다. 긴 밤의 어둠을 밀쳐내고 가만히 밝아오는 하늘의 푸른빛은 새로운 하루의 시작을 알린다. 이어 한낮의 하늘은 투명한 푸른빛을 가득 채워 끝이 보이지 않는 무한한 신성함을 품고 있다.    

바다에 푸른빛은 한층 푸르다. 바다에 잠긴 하늘의 숨결처럼 자맥질하는 푸른빛은 세상의 아픔을 치유하는 하얀 거품을 쏟아내며 한층 깊은 울림을 여민 푸른빛을 안고 있다. 이어 세상은 잠시 붉은 노을을 머금다가 해가 지면 다시 하루의 끝을 삼킨 푸른빛으로 변한다. 

세상의 자연에는 수많은 색상이 존재한다. 그중 푸른빛은 하늘의 맑은 푸름에서부터 바다의 깊은 짙푸름까지 늘 시작과 끝에부터 세상 모든 것을 품고 있다. 이처럼 가장 많은 푸른빛이 세상에 존재하는 까닭을 물리적으로 헤아리면 바다와 호수의 물은 푸른색 빛을 반사한다. 나아가 세상 모든 식물도 생명과 같은 푸른빛을 떼어내어 세상에 흩뿌려 푸른 그늘의 빛을 드리운다. 물리적으로는 반사이다. 

그러나 이와 달리 하늘은 사방으로 푸른빛이 흩어진다. 산란 현상이다. 이러한 현상에는 자연과 인간의 긴밀한 관계가 존재한다. 여러 현상 속에서 사람의 눈에 들어와 시각적 신호를 만들어낼 수 있는 감지와 인식이 가능한 파장의 가시광선을 빛이라고 한다.

이러한 빛은 왜 생겨나는가? 무한한 우주 안에서 극히 작은 행성인 지구에서 살아가고 있는 우리의 공간을 세상이라고 한다. 이러한 작은 세상과 드넓은 우주는 영원한 두 가지 기본적인 힘으로 이루어져 있다. 바로 전기력(전기장)과 자기력(자기장)이다. 

전기장이란 전기를 띄고 있는 물체 주위의 공간을 뜻하는 것으로 세상 모든 물질과 실체는 전기력을 가지고 있음을 말한다. 예로 머리카락을 만졌을 때 그 마찰력에 정전기가 생겨나는 것도 원자의 전기력에 의한 것이다. 이와 달리 자기장이란 세상 모든 물질과 실체에 존재하는 자석력의 작용이 미치는 공간을 말한다. 

이러한 전기장과 자기장이 상호 작용을 하면서 생겨나는 변화의 현상 중 하나가 파동인 전자기파이다. 여기서 인간의 눈으로 감지하고 인식이 가능한 파장의 가시광선이 빛이다. 스펙트럼의 파장이 긴 붉은빛과 파장이 짧은 파란빛으로 양분되어 다양한 빛깔이 나타난다. 새벽녘과 저녁녘에 잠시 생겨나는 붉은빛 노을에서 다시 푸른빛으로 변해가는 세상의 조화와 균형의 신성함이다.

The trees and branches expressed through the use of ink are patterns that have endured for a long time. The white flowers blooming on the branches are the sacred hope of life that no one can give up.
