이번 대회는 무한한 잠재력을 가진 육상 꿈나무들을 조기에 발굴 및 육성하고자 한국중고육상연맹이 주최하고, 보은군체육회와 보은군육상연맹 주관으로 진행됐으며, 2,500여 명의 선수단 및 관계자가 참여해 100m달리기, 높이뛰기 등 총 240개 종목에서 그동안 갈고닦은 기량을 펼쳤다.

군은 지난 8월에 개최된 추계 전국 초중고등학교 육상경기대회를 성공적으로 마무리한 후 기반 시설 점검 등 미비점을 보완하여 효율적인 경기 운영과 경기 중 안전사고를 예방할 수 있도록 각별한 주의를 기울였다.

다행히 대회 시작일부터 늦더위가 한풀 꺾이며, 완연한 가을 날씨를 보여 대회에 참가한 선수들이 최상의 컨디션으로 경기에 임할 수 있었다.

관계자들의 철저한 사전 준비와 선수들의 열정이 더해진 결과 제5회 전국 초중고등학교 학년별 육상경기대회에서는 무려 3개의 부별 한국 신기록과 100개의 부별 대회 신기록, 2개의 대회 타이기록이 쏟아졌다.
