[브레이크뉴스경기남부=수원 이현준기자] 수원광교박물관이 광복 80주년을 맞아 1월 1일부터 12월 14일까지 특별기획전 ‘수원시가 발굴한 13인의 독립운동가’를 개최한다.

수원시가 발굴해 독립운동가 서훈을 받은 수원의 독립운동가 13명을 소개하는 전시다.

수원은 3·1운동이 가장 격렬하게 일어났던 곳으로 종교인, 농민, 상인, 학생, 기생까지 모든 계층이 만세운동에 참여했다. 학생들과 사회지도층들은 각종 비밀결사 조직을 결성해 식민 지배체제에 끝까지 항거했다. 그 과정에서 수많은 애국지사가 조국 독립을 위해 목숨을 바쳤지만, 아직도 공적을 인정받지 못한 독립운동가가 많이 있다.

수원시는 2008년 수원박물관 개관 후 그동안 잘 알려지지 않았던 독립운동가를 발굴하고, 그들이 독립유공자 서훈을 받을 수 있도록 노력했다. 수원 기생조합 대표로 만세운동을 했던 기생 김향화(1897~미상), 학생으로 비밀결사 조직을 결성하고 상해 임시정부에서 활동하려다 체포돼 순국한 이선경(1902~1921)을 발굴해 서훈을 받은 것을 시작으로 2018년에는 수원시정연구원과 함께 수원 지역 독립운동가 발굴 사업을 진행해 113인의 독립운동가를 찾아냈다. 그중 11명이 2020년과 2024년에 서훈을 받았다.

박물관 2층 복도에서 열리는 이번 특별기획전에서는 수원시가 새롭게 발굴한 13인의 독립운동가를 소개한다.

반제국주의 기사를 기고한 혐의로 옥고를 치른 유병기(1895~미상), 일제의 수탈로 고통받던 소작농을 돕기 위해 농민조합 활동을 했던 장주문(1906~미상), 세 번의 옥고에도 독립운동을 멈추지 않았던 차계영(1913~1946), 노동자와 함께 독립운동에 나선 수원의 두 여성 최경창(1918~미상)과 홍종례(1919~미상) 등 그동안 잘 알려지지 않은 독립운동가들을 시민들에게 널리 알릴 예정이다.

수원광교박물관 관계자는 “광복 80주년을 맞는 ‘당당한 대한민국, 빛나는 수원’의 새해 첫날을 수원광교박물관이 활짝 열고자 한다”며 “많은 시민이 특별기획전을 관람하길 바란다”고 말했다.

수원광교박물관은 화~일요일 오전 9시부터 오후 6시까지 운영한다. 매주 월요일은 휴관한다.
