손문자 작가의 작품은 모든 것이 종교에서 출발하고 종교로 귀착된다. 신앙인이든 예술가이든 행복과 불행의 세계 속에 존재한다. 그러나 손문자는 색채와 형태로 신앙 속에 생활하는 가장 아름답고 순결한 예술가로 자리하고 있다.
이것은 어쩌면 작가는 인간으로서 하나님과 구원의 역사 속에 평생을 살아왔다는 의미이다. 일찍이 성서를 주제로 많은 작품을 남긴 마르크 샤갈은 1958년 시카고 강연에서 고백했다.
