브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 미국 트럼프 2기 행정부가 상호관세 협상과 관련, 빨리 합의에 이를수록 더 큰 혜택을 주겠다고 밝혔다.

월스트리트저널(WSJ)은 14일(현지 시간) 사안에 정통한 소식통을 인용해 이같이 보도하며 스콧 베선트 미국 재무장관이 신규 무역 합의를 위한 협상에서 한국, 일본, 인도, 호주, 영국 5개국을 우선시하고 있다고 했다.

베선트 장관은 이날 블룸버그TV와의 인터뷰에서도 일본과는 이번 주, 한국과는 내주 논의를 시작할 것이라 전하며 "협상은 빠르게 진행될 것"이라고 했다.

그는 특히 "가장 중요한 무역 파트너 국가와의 협상에 트럼프 대통령이 관여할 것"이라며 "처음으로 합의를 타결하는 자가 가장 좋은 합의를 얻게 될 것"이라고 말했다. 

다만 우리나라의 경우 협상 시작이 빠를 뿐 협상 타결까지는 시간이 걸릴 수 있다. 트럼프 대통령은 한국에 대해 관세 문제 뿐 아니라 주한미군 방위비 분담금 등 안보문제까지 관세와 연계시키는 패키지를 언급하고 있기 때문이다.

우리 정부 역시 상호관세 완화에 목표를 두고 미국과 협상을 진행하겠다는 방침을 세우고 있어, 통상과 안보 패키지 딜이 체결되려면 90일간의 상호관세 유예 기간이 다소 촉박할 수 있다는 관측도 나온다.
