한덕수 대통령 권한대행이 16일 웨스 무어 미국 메릴랜드 주지사와 만나 도널드 트럼프 행정부 관세 정책에 대한 관심을 요청했다.
한 권한대행은 이날 오전 서울 한 호텔에서 가진 무어 주지사와의 조찬 자리에서 미래 산업 협력 및 한·미동맹 등에 관해 논의하면서 이같이 주문했다. 무어 주지사는 무역사절단과 함께 방한했다.
한 대행은 트럼프 미 대통령과의 통화 내용을 언급하며 "미국과 서로 윈윈하는 방안을 찾기 위해 장관급 등에서 소통·협력·협상하고 있다" 무어 주지사의 관심을 당부했다.
이에 무어 주지사는 "한·미관계 중요성을 감안해 미 행정부와의 협상이 잘 진행될 수 있길 희망하고 가능한 범위 내에서 지원하겠다"고 말했다.
한 대행은 또 "퀀텀·바이오·제약·우주 등 첨단기술 산업 중심지 메릴랜드와 우리 정부·기업·연구기관 간 협력이 확대되고 있다"며 "향후에도 한·메릴랜드가 함께 미래 분야 산업 발전을 선도해 나가길 기대한다"고 말했다.
무어 주지사는 "퀀텀·바이오, 우주 등 분야에서 뛰어난 창의력으로 혁신을 이끌어 나가는 한국 기업들이 메릴랜드에 진출해 많은 기여를 하고 있다"며 "앞으로도 한·메릴랜드 간 협력이 계속 발전해 나갈 수 있도록 최선의 노력을 다하겠다"고 밝혔다.
