브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 국민의힘은 21일 이준석 개혁신당 대선 후보에게 본격적으로 단일화 러브콜을 보내고 있다.

신동욱 국민의힘 중앙선거대책위원회 수석대변인은 이날 오전 서울 여의도 중앙당사에서 열린 정례 브리핑에서 "이준석 후보의 대한민국 보수의 미래를 위한 정치적 판단, 이런 부분에 대한 숙고가 지금부터 시작될 것이라고 보고 있다"고 밝혔다.

그는 "단일화 문제는 사실은 하룻밤 사이에도 타결될 수 있는 것이고 끝까지 안될 수도 있다"면서 "단일화는 저희가 설득한다고 해서 단일화가 되는 것은 아니다. 그쪽에서도 판단이 있는 것"이라고 말했다.

이어 "다만 기대하는 건 이준석 후보가 저희 당 대표 출신이고 기본적으로 보수개혁에 대한 열망이 높은 분이라 어떤 길이 과연 본인이 주장하는 보수개혁을 위해 도움이 되는 길인지 이런 부분에 대한 판단이 중요한 변수가 될 것이라고 생각한다"며 "저희 당에서 누가 가서 단일화 하자고 이렇게 해서 단일화 될 것이라고 생각하지 않는다"고 했다. 

신 수석대변인은 또한 '한덕수 전 국무총리 동향'에 대해선 "저희가 파악하기로는 도움을 주실 것"이라며 "다만 후보 손을 잡고 유세하거나 이런 방식일 것이라고 생각하지 않는다"고 말했다.

그러면서 "대한민국 미래를 걱정하는 마음에 있어서는 한 전 총리도 누구 못지않게 걱정하는 마음이 크신 분이라 결국 우리가 승리할 수 있게 모든 분들이 손을 들어주시고 도움 주실 것으로 본다"며 "본인들이 아마 충분히 고려하고 시간과 타이밍을 보고 있을 것이라 생각한다"고 부연했다.
