민주주의 국가에서 권력의 정통성과 이에 따른 권위는 단 하나, 선거에서 나온다. 선거는 국민의 명령이며, 국가 질서의 중심축이다. 왕조 시대조차도 권력의 안정은 정통성에 달려 있었다. 조선의 세자가 명나라나 청나라 황제로부터 책봉을 받아야 비로소 왕위에 오를 수 있었고, 김정은 역시 후계자 자리를 승인받기 위해 중국 지도자 후진타오를 찾았다. 권력의 정통성은 절차에서 나오고, 그 절차가 흔들리면 국가는 방향을 잃는다.
그러나 오늘 대한민국의 보수 진영 일부가 보여주는 광경은 충격적이다. 헌법기관이 주관하고 사법부가 최종적으로 검증한 선거 결과를, 아무런 근거 없이 부정하는 퇴행의 정치가 보수의 얼굴이 되어가고 있다. 그 중심에는 황교안, 전광훈, 그리고 그들을 둘러싼 음모론 유튜브 생태계가 있다.
황교안은 공안검사 출신으로, 국무총리와 대통령 권한대행을 지낸 인물이다. 한때 법과 원칙의 수호자였던 그가, 이제는 '선거가 조작됐다', '문자투표가 해킹됐다, '개표기가 조작됐다'는 주장을 반복하며 부정선거론의 대표 인물이 되었다. 공식 재검표에서 중대한 오류는 발견되지 않았고, 대법원은 모든 절차를 마무리했다. 수십 건의 고소, 고발은 무혐의로 종결되었지만, 그는 여전히 누군가 조작했다는 막연한 의혹만을 반복한다. 이는 법률가로서의 최소한의 양심과 품격마저 저버린 행위다.
더욱 우려스러운 건, 이러한 황교안의 주장이 단순한 열혈 지지층의 광기에서 끝나지 않는다는 것이다. 그를 따르는 이들 중에는 교수, 변호사, 전직 공무원, 목사 등 과거 '엘리트'로 불리던 이들이 포함돼 있다. 이들은 유튜브 채널 몇 개에서 흘러나오는 허술한 의혹 영상에 휘둘리며, 합리적 판단을 유보하고, 사실과 허구를 구분하지 못한다. 일종의 집단 최면이며, 민주적 질서에 대한 체계적 파괴다.
이 음모론의 또 다른 축은 전광훈이다. 그는 종교의 이름으로 정치 선동을 일삼고, '윤석열은 하나님이 보낸 대통령'이라 말하며 헌법과 신앙을 뒤섞는 위험한 언설을 퍼뜨리고 있다. 교회가 정치 플랫폼이 되고, 설교가 선거운동이 되는 상황은 단순한 일탈이 아니라 민주주의의 근간을 위협하는 중대한 일대 사태다. 신앙은 정치의 도구가 되어서는 안 된다. 신은 권력의 도구가 아니다.
이들이 만들어낸 세계는 단순한 오류나 실수의 영역이 아니다. 하나의 대체현실(alternate reality)이다. 이 세계에서 모든 선거는 조작되고, 모든 언론은 가짜이며, 모든 사법부는 딥스테이트(deep state)에 장악되었다. 그들은 자신들만이 진실을 알고 있다고 믿으며, 매일 밤 10시 유튜브에서 그 진실을 송출한다. 민주주의의 본질은 견제와 균형, 책임과 절제인데, 이들은 오히려 그 반대의 길, 즉 광신과 독단, 허위와 파괴의 길을 걷고 있다.
보수는 책임의 정치다. 법치와 질서, 절제와 품격의 정치다. 그러나 지금 이들이 보여주는 정치의 모습은 더 이상 보수가 아니다. 이는 정치가 아니라, 종교화된 음모론이며, 체제 전복적 발상에 가까운 반(反)국가 운동이다.
진짜 보수라면 "졌으니 부정이다"라는 주장을 받아들일 수 없다. 정치란 이기기 위해 지는 법부터 배워야 하는 게임이다. 민심을 읽지 못해 졌다면 전략을 바꾸고, 시민과 다시 소통하며, 제도 안에서 경쟁하고 개선해야 한다. 그러나 이들은 자신들의 실패를 인정하지 않고, 그 책임을 제도에 돌리며 헌법기관의 권위를 부정하고 있다. 이 길의 끝은 자멸이다. 보수가 선거에서 반복해 패배한 이유가 바로 여기에 있다.

선거는 민주주의의 성전이며, 국민과의 신성한 약속이다. 이를 정서적 분노와 집단적 광기로 뒤엎으려는 자들에게는 정치할 자격이 없다. 정당한 경쟁 없이 권력을 요구하는 자는 민주주의의 적이다. 황교안과 전광훈, 그리고 그들을 추종하는 유튜버 군단은 더 이상 보수를 대변하지 않는다. 그들은 보수의 이름으로 보수를 파괴하고 있다.
지금 대한민국 보수는 갈림길에 서 있다. 광기의 정치와 결별하고, 이성과 품격의 정치로 돌아갈 것인가. 아니면 거짓과 음모에 몸을 맡기고, 몰락의 길을 걸을 것인가.

Saying democracy while denying elections? Hwang Kyo-ahn and Jeon Kwang-hoon, who are making conservatives sick

In a democratic country, the legitimacy of power and the authority that comes with it come from only one thing: elections. Elections are the people’s command and the central axis of national order. Even in the dynasty era, the stability of power depended on legitimacy. The crown prince of Joseon could only ascend to the throne after receiving investiture from the emperor of the Ming or Qing dynasty, and Kim Jong-un also sought out Chinese leader Hu Jintao to receive approval for his position as successor. The legitimacy of power comes from procedures, and when those procedures are shaken, the country loses its direction.
However, the spectacle that some conservatives in South Korea are showing today is shocking. Regressive politics that deny without any basis the election results that the constitutional institutions supervised and the judiciary finally verified are becoming the face of conservatism. At the center of it all are Hwang Kyo-ahn, Jeon Kwang-hoon, and the conspiracy theory YouTube ecosystem surrounding them.
Hwang Kyo-ahn is a former public prosecutor who served as prime minister and acting president. Once a defender of law and principles, he has now become a representative figure of the theory of election fraud, repeatedly claiming that “the election was rigged,” “text-based voting was hacked,” and “the voting machines were rigged.” No major errors were found in the official recount, and the Supreme Court has completed all procedures. Dozens of lawsuits and indictments have been concluded without charges, but he still repeats vague suspicions that someone manipulated the system. This is an act that has abandoned even the minimum conscience and dignity of a lawyer.
What is even more worrisome is that Hwang Kyo-ahn’s claims do not end with the mere madness of his ardent supporters. Among those who follow him are professors, lawyers, former civil servants, and pastors, who were once called “elites.” They are swayed by the sloppy suspicion videos coming from a few YouTube channels, they suspend rational judgment, and they cannot distinguish between fact and fiction. It is a kind of mass hypnosis and systematic destruction of democratic order.
Another axis of this conspiracy theory is Jeon Kwang-hoon. He engages in political agitation in the name of religion and spreads dangerous rhetoric that mixes the Constitution and religion, saying, “Yoon Seok-yeol is a president sent by God.” The situation where churches become political platforms and sermons become election campaigns is not a simple deviation, but a major event that threatens the foundation of democracy. Religion should not be a tool of politics. God is not a tool of power.
The world they have created is not a realm of simple errors or mistakes. It is an alternate reality. In this world, all elections are rigged, all media is fake, and all judicial branches are controlled by the deep state. They believe that only they know the truth, and they broadcast that truth on YouTube every night at 10 p.m. The essence of democracy is checks and balances, responsibility and moderation, but these people are taking the opposite path, that is, the path of fanaticism, dogmatism, falsehood and destruction.
Conservatives are the politics of responsibility. They are the politics of rule of law and order, moderation and dignity. However, the form of politics they are showing now is no longer conservative. This is not politics, but a religious conspiracy theory, and an anti-state movement close to a subversive idea.
A true conservative cannot accept the argument that “it is unfair because we lost.” Politics is a game in which you must learn how to lose in order to win. If you lose because you failed to read public sentiment, you must change your strategy, communicate with citizens again, and compete and improve within the system. However, they do not admit their failures, and they are blaming the system for the responsibility, denying the authority of constitutional institutions. The end of this path is self-destruction. This is precisely why conservatives have repeatedly lost elections.
Elections are the temple of democracy and a sacred promise to the people. Those who try to overturn this with emotional anger and collective madness are not qualified to be in politics. Those who demand power without fair competition are enemies of democracy. Hwang Kyo-ahn, Jeon Kwang-hoon, and the YouTuber army that follows them no longer represent conservatism. They are destroying conservatism in the name of conservatism.
Right now, South Korean conservatism is at a crossroads. Will it break away from the politics of madness and return to politics of reason and dignity? Or will it surrender itself to lies and conspiracies and walk the path to ruin?
