지난 8일 서산시민체육관에서 선수단 출정식을 개최했다. 이날 행사에는 이완섭 서산시장을 비롯해 성일종 국회의원, 조동식 서산시의회 의장, 윤만형 서산시체육회장, 그리고 선수 및 임원 약 400여 명이 참석해 선수단을 격려하고 대회에서의 좋은 성적과 안전을 기원했다.

제77회 충청남도민체육대회는 오는 12일부터 15일까지 천안종합운동장을 중심으로 각 종목별 경기장에서 열린다. 이번 대회에서는 채점 27개, 비채점 3개, 시범 1개 종목 등 총 31개 종목의 경기가 진행될 예정이다.

이번 대회에 참가하는 서산시 선수단은 선수 745명, 임원 279명 등 총 1,024명으로 구성되었다. 서산시는 지난해 제76회 대회에서 아쉽게 준우승을 차지했지만, 올해는 그 이상의 성적을 목표로 종합우승을 향한 강력한 의지를 다지고 있으며 30개 종목에 출전한다.

출정식에서 이완섭 서산시장은 "지난해 준우승으로 스포츠 도시 서산의 위상을 높여준 선수단이 올해 대회에서도 갈고 닦은 기량을 마음껏 펼쳐주길 바란다"며, "종합우승만큼 선수단의 안전이 중요하다. 안전과 종합우승 두 마리 토끼를 다 잡는 대회가 되길 바란다"고 당부했다.
