도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령이 13일(현지시간) 이스라엘을 방문해 “하마스는 내 계획에 포함된 무장 해제 조항을 이행할 것”이라며 "오늘은 아름답고 위대한 날이며 새로운 시작으로 전쟁은 끝났다”고 밝혔다.
미 'AP 통신' 영국 '로이터 통신'에 따르면 트럼프 대통령은 이날 오전 9시 42분께 미 대통령 전용기 에어포스 원편으로 텔아비브 인근 벤구리온 국제공항에 도착 후 이스라엘 의회(크네세트) 연설애 앞서 취재진과 만나 이같이 말했다.
공항엔 이스라엘 베냐민 네타냐후 총리와 이츠하크 헤르초그 대통령이 나와 트럼프 대통령을 직접 영접했다.
트럼프 대통령은 “오늘은 평화를 향한 위대한 날이며 가자 전쟁을 끝내기 위한 진정한 협력이 시작됐다”고 말한데 이어 텔아비브 인질 광장 연설에선 “이스라엘 국민에게 전할 메시지는 단 하나 영원한 사랑·평화”라고 밝혔다.
또 크네세트 연설에서 “하마스 무장 해제가 현실화하면 가자는 새로운 시대를 맞게 될 것”이라며 “우리는 파괴된 가자를 재건하고 중동 미래를 다시 설계할 것이며 오늘의 협정은 단순한 정전이 아닌 평화·번영 기반이 되는 첫걸음”이라고 말했다.
이어 "가자는 언젠가 ‘중동의 리비에라’로 다시 태어날 것이며 부유한 아랍 국가들이 재건을 주도할 것”이라며 "당장은 폐허처럼 보이나 언젠가 직접 그 땅을 밟고 싶다”고 덧붙였다.
