JMS 정명석 목사의 사건을 추적한, 필자가 쓴 '나는 정명석을 만나러 간다(‘JMS 정명석 사건’ 추적기(追跡記)-“라는 제목의 저서(출판사=대양 미디어)가 서울 광화문 교보문고의 베스트셀러에 진입했다. 

교보문고측은 이 책이 10월 5일자 주간베스트 셀러에 진입, 에세이 부문 15위(10월4일자는 13위)에 올라왔다고 홈페이지에 공시했다.

이 책은 정명석 목사를 한국 언론 과잉보도의 피해자로 지목, 이를 추적한 내용이다. 그런데 이 책이 출판시장에서 뜨거운 판매반응을 보이고 있는 것. 그간 한국의 언론들이 JMS 정명석 목사가 1만명의 여성을 성폭행 했다는 류를 보도해 왔는데, 이는 언론의 가짜보도에 속한다. 이의 문제점을 적시한 필자의 글이 출판상품으로 인기리 팔리고 있는 것. 이는, 필자 개인에겐  기쁜 일이지만, 한국 언론의 허접함을 웅변하는 슬픈 사회 현상 중의 하나이다. 

필자의 상상이지만, 아 책이 서울 광화문 교보문고에서 판매1위를 점령하면? 어떤 일이 벌어질까? 확언하지만, 언론의 과장보도 피해자인 JMS 정명석 목사의 이미지가 교체되는 서광으로 작용할 것이다. 사실을 기록하는 기자 한 명이 얼마나 귀중한 존재인지를 보여주리라 기대한다.

2000년 전 예수의 성경 기록자도 '성경 기자' 였다. 오늘날 희대의 과잉보도 사건인 정명석 목사 사건인  한국판 종교재판의 기록자도 기자이다. 필자는 본지(브레이크뉴스 발행인)발행인-기자이다. 참고로, 필자는 '비록 중앙정보부(전3권)'의 저자이다.

필자는 올해 50년차 기자이다. 그런 필자가 왜 미묘한 종교재판에 끼어들었나? 필자는 현재 일어나고 있는 사실들을 기록했을 뿐이다. 

필자는 이 책의 프롤로그에서 "한 개인에 대한 언론의 과장-왜곡 보도가 얼마나 큰 파장을 일으키는 지의, 실증적, 또는 사실적인 기록으로 이해해주면 좋겠다."라고 주장했다.

애필로그에서는 ", 정명석 목사는 반체제 인물이 결코 아니다. 그는 예수와 기독교 성경을 신봉하는 독실한 크리스찬이다. 예수의 정신인 '사랑'을 온 세상에 확산시키려 안달인 '사랑주의자'이다. 월남전에 참전, 평화의 존귀함을 몸으로 체험한 '평화주의자'이다. 건물로서의 교회가 아닌, 자연교회 운동을 해온 '자연주의자'이다. 또한 글로벌 자유체제를 옹호하려는 안정세력이다."라고 피력했다.

아래는 프롤로그-에필로그의 전문이다 

<<나는 정명석을 만나러 간다”의 ‘프롤로그’ 전문=전쟁 중에는 덫(트랩=trap)이 사용된다. 나는 월남의 호치민 시에서 25km쯤 떨어진 곳에 위치한 구찌 마을을 가봤었다. 이 구찌 마을은 시골마을이다. 지하에 총 250km에 달하는 전투용 땅굴이 설치돼 있었다. 이곳은 북쪽 베트남 지역이다. 월남전 당시 전략의 요충지였다. 미군은 이 지역에서 많은 사상자를 냈다. 함정, 함정 속의 덫(트랩=trap) 때문이었다. 그래서 미군은 전투기로 이 지역을 상대로 무차별 폭격을 가했다.

월맹군들은 이 땅굴 근처의 요소요소에 함정을 만들었다. 그리고 그 함정 아래쪽에 덫(트랩=trap)을 설치했다. 함정의 아래에는 뾰쪽하고 예리한 철제 송곳(송곳의 끝이 위를 향하도록 해왔다.)을, 수를 헤아릴 수없이 촘촘하게 박아 놓았다. 적군이 그 함정에 빠지면, 떨어지는 순간, 순식간에 쇠꼬챙이에 찔리게 된다. 덫(트랩=trap)의 주변은 소똥과 소 오줌을 부어 푹 썩도록 해 놨다. 이 함정에 빠지는 순간, 쇠못에 찔리게 되고, 부패한 소의 오줌-똥물이 사람의 상처에 스며들게 되어, 신음하면서 사망하게 된다. 일종의 지독한 부비트랩(boobytrap=함정 등의 장치로 사람을 사살하거나 부상을 입혀 무력화하기 위한 간단한 덫이나 장치류)이다.

어느 날 갑자기, 정명석이 1만여 명이 여성을 성 폭행(준 강간)했다는 류의 기사가 세상에 풍미했다. 나는, 올해로 50년 째 기자생활을 해오고 있는 사람이다. 문명시대에 그런, 쇼킹한 뉴스를 접한 순간 “과연 그럴까?”라는 의심이, 확 떠올랐다. 천둥번개처럼. 그때부터 나의 뇌리에선 “정명석은 덫(트랩=trap)에 빠진 게 아닐까?”라는, 기자로서의 상상이 떠나질 않았다. 구찌땅굴의 함정, 그 속의 덫(트랩=trap)이 연상 됐다. 그래서 이 글을 써야 한다고 결론을 내렸다.

소위 월남전 때, 베트콩들이 파놓았던 함정과 그 함정 아래를 점하고 있던 덫(트랩=trap), 그 덫(트랩=trap)같은 것에 정명석이 빠져, 허우적거리고 있는 게 아닐까? 나의 고된, 글쓰기 작업이 시작된 촉발점이다. 실명소설이라 명하든, 또는 기자가 취재한 현장 기록이라 하든. 나의 글쓰기 작업은 이런 계기에서 시작됐다.

-기독교복음선교회(JMS)-정명석 목사는 어떤 세력인가? 이런 질문을 하는 것은, 사회적인 비판-탄압의 증세로 봐서 "반 체제 세력인가?"라고, 의심할 수 있어서이다.

기독교복음선교회(JMS)-정명석 목사의 교지를 보면, 현대 한국사회의 지배이념인 미국 개신교단의 사랑-평화정신을 기본이념으로 하고 있다. 정명석 목사의 출신지는 대한민국 충청도이다. 충청도는 중도의 본거지이다. 중도지역에서 낳고 자랐다. 정명석 목사는 군 복무 시절, 두번이나 파월됐다가 살아온 애국 군인 출신이다. 살아오면서 반체제 시위에 나선 적도 없다.
