이정현 전 의원은 6월5일 인터넷 저널인 페이스북에 “우리(국민의힘)가 졌다고 나라를 잃은 건 아니다, 지치지 말자, 그러나 변화하자”라는 제목의 글을 게재했다. “새로운 당을 만들자”, 즉 신당창당을 주장했다.
