경북 안동시 안동댐 선착장 일대에서 지난 2010년 8월 17일 안동에 있는 어느 중학교 교감(당시 53세) A씨가 가족과의 마지막 연락을 나눈 뒤 실종되는 사건이 발생했다. 이날 오전 9시 30분 무렵, 선착장 인근 주차장에서 A씨의 승용차를 찾은 데 이어, 신발과 넥타이는 선착장 위에 놓여 있었다.

당시 경찰, 소방, 민간인 등이 한 달 가량 안동댐 선착장 주변 수중 수색에 나섰으나, 찾지 못한 채 장기 미제 사건으로 분류됐다. 그러던 중 지난 2025년 5월 17일 오후 2시 무렵 안동댐 선착장 인근에서 수상 구조물 설치를 하던 백민규(55) 전 안동수난구조대장에 의해 변사체로 발견됐다.

백민규 전 구조대장은 작업 도중 실수로 사다리를 물 속에 빠뜨렸다. 스쿠버 장비를 착용하고 있던 그는 수심 30m까지 내려가 바닥을 훑은 끝에 사다리를 찾았다. 그리고 작업을 계속하다 또 다시 사다리를 빠뜨리고 말았다. 그에 재차 물속에서 사다리를 찾던 중 하반신 일부가 펄 속에 묻힌 시신을 목격했다.

그는 시신 주변을 촬영한 뒤 뭍으로 나와 경찰에 신고했다. 오후 3시 44분 무렵이다. 이틀 뒤인 19일 오전 11시 40분 쯤 소방대가 해당 사체를 인양한 후 경찰에 인계했다. 국립과학수사연구원 감식 결과, 시신의 유전자 샘플과 딸(48)의 구강 세포 유전자가 99.9999% 일치하는 것으로 나타났다.
